Our Story

Poly-Emp Employment & Advisory Service was established as a Charitable Trust in 1993, out of a growing need for graduating students with disabilities to be assisted into paid employment. Prior to this time, many students were graduating from transition-to-work courses, especially designed for those with learning difficulties and were having limited success in finding and keeping work. Existing supported employment programmes were not tailored to meet the graduate’s specific needs.


Students completing the courses needed a support mechanism to aid them in planning their careers, job searching, pre-placement assistance and liaising directly with prospective employers. Once successful in finding employment, the need for support was also obvious. A third party was necessary to act as advocate and advisor, to both the employer and the employee. The aim of support was to empower all involved, ensuring win-win situations, and resulting in competent and confident employees who would then have the opportunity to reach their full potential in the workplace.


In 2017 the need for Poly-Emp is as pronounced as ever. Poly-Emp continues to cover the greater Auckland area bounded by North to Albany and South to Tuakau, covering and including Central, East and West Auckland. With increasing numbers of referrals each year including referrals directly from the public. With a large number of existing clients being supported in the work place, or in active job search, the need for Poly-Emp’s service is ongoing.
